Iris is a proposal for a virtual reality mockup software that allows designers and creatives to visualize their designs in virtual space during the design process. Iris works by taking a flat design and placing it into a 360º image of the final application, whether it be a poster, a billboard, or anything users can think of. The software itself does not yet exist but its potential has been shown in a website featuring mockups and prototypes, as well as an overview of how it will function.

Iris was created out of a need in the design community. One day, I drove past an ad on a bus stop and noticed how small the text was, making it illegible from the street. That means that the majority of the people reading the ad, people passing in their cars, couldn’t even read what it was advertising. I realized that if the designer could have seen that ad on the bus stop before it was installed, they would have caught that mistake and reached a wider audience. That was the moment when Iris was born. Currently, no software exists that allows designers to visualize their designs in virtual reality at every step of the creative process. Iris bridges the gap between idea and finished product. It helps designers envision what the end result might be before they get there, allowing them to correct mistakes, make changes, and switch directions before anything is ever manufactured.
