Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies Site

Student Project - Spring 2019

HTML/CSS , Adobe Illustrator

The goal of this project was to create a website takes the user through a non-linear narrative based on a story of our choosing. The story I chose is The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding in 1954. To achieve the non-linear aspect of this project, I dissected the original story and pieced it back together in a way that would allow me to create loops, decision points, and dead ends. Overall, I'm pleased with how my narrative and page structure turned out. I wanted to create enough unique paths to take to allow the user to explore on their own and I feel that I accomplished that. I wanted my site to be reminiscent of one of the old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books that were popular in the 70s and 80s. This inspiration is what drove my font selections, color palette, and illustration style. While it is not an exact visual replica of the style of the books, it maintains the feeling of nostalgia and keeps a minimal aesthetic throughout the site, allowing users to completely immerse themselves in the story and not be distracted by the visuals. Some other things I drew inspiration from were camping, national parks, and Boy Scouts.
